When selected to teach math and English at a K-6 school for gifted students, I learned how giftedness, visual spatial learning and HSP pertained to me.
Apparently, I had personal experience. While I was in 6th grade, I participated in a gifted pull-out class. I’ve dropped out into a lower level school during my first bachelor program, because of not knowing how to learn and needing another type of instruction. This all because of a combination of giftedness, being a partial visual spatial learner and being a HSP.
With my Dutch Ba in Ed, and an American MA in Early Childhood Special Education, I’ve enjoyed teaching in different settings before I started my independent Gifted and Talented Specialist practice. I’ve taught PBL & English to 1st and 2nd graders, and 6th grade math (including Math Circle) at a gifted K-8 school, as well as Dutch to first and multi-language K-1 learners and in other multi grade classes. I've also worked as a substitute teacher in an English preschool and in their K-5 school. Furthermore, I worked as an independent tutor (math, reading & spelling, and handwriting), and as a Developmental Specialist and Trainer in Early Childhood Special Education. I provided healthy baby and toddler clinics as a public health nurse and as an advice nurse in a medical child day care center prior to teaching)
Once back in the Netherlands, I wanted to understand how the approach and support for (possibly) gifted children is organised in the Netherlands. So, I studied at WijsSein and Novilo to become a Gifted and Talent Specialist, and visited and participated in different schools and other settings. In addition, I've started IQVerwonder, and taken some additional schooling: Peers4Parents coaching, "Screening with the World Game" & "Learning to Learn" (Visual Spatial Thinkers) - Kindinbeeld, Jamara Math - Breincentrum a remedial teaching program, Cognitive Skills - Wendy Peper.
Further on, I will continue to delve into subjects to improve my skills and knowledge as a Gifted and Talented Specialist.
